  • Streak Free Window Cleaning Tips

Posted by admin on May 26th, 2009 and filed under Articles | No Comments »

Spring is in the air, well okay, I guess it seems like it is always spring in San Diego.  What can I say?

Being a San Diego window cleaning company sure has its perks.  But just because the weather is perfect and delightful, does not mean we don’t get dirty windows.

As a matter of fact, because of the beautiful weather, being San Diegans, we take it for granted and assume our windows can’t ever get dirty.  Not so.

Now before we begin, let’s get one thing straight.  The window cleaning tips I give you are not just for Southern Californians.  No, these tips can be used and applied no matter where you find yourself here on earth.

Are you ready?  Let’s get started.

Can you guess what the main problem is when trying to clean windows?  Those ugly streaks.  We wake up one day feeling great, believing we can take on the world.  So what do we want to take on?  We want to take on our windows.

But, hold on there partner, before you tackle the windows, and I am not saying you can’t.  Make sure you know exactly what you need to do.  And it isn’t that hard.

Ready for the tips?  Here goes in quick fashion.

Now right off the bat, the first thing you will want and need is the right tools for the job.  This isn’t going to be a quick spray and wipedown of your family room glass table.  No, this will be glass that has months of dirt piled on, from the weather all the way to insects and birds making it dirty.

What exactly then will be the right tools for the job?  As I mentioned before windex and paper towels will not do the trick.  What you will need though, won’t be that intricate.  All you’ll need is a squeegee and a spray bottle, and then you can break out the paper towels.

Gather these simple tools.  Use them the right way, and watch your day of window cleaning go as smooth as possible.

So now what do you do with these tools?  Well the final part is the secret sauce.  Ready for the secret ingredient?  Drum roll please.  The secret sauce is 2 gallons of water and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid.  Sounds simple, but that is all you will need to make your windows streak free.

One final thing I forgot to mention, and don’t hate me for this.  You are going to have to add a lot of elbow grease.

Remember when you woke up all gung ho ready to take on the windows?  Well after the third window or so, that little bit of elbow grease might just not be enough.

Well when you do, don’t forget where you got the advice.  Your wonderful local San Diego window washing company, who won’t mind adding some elbow grease.

    Till next time, happy cleaning.

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling – Where To Begin

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2009 and filed under Articles | No Comments »

When starting home renovation, you can do as much or little as you desire. If you really want to add value to your house, you might want to think about the kitchen and bathrooms. These two rooms are usually the most outdated and require the most money to remodel. Adding updated fixtures and cabinetry can provide a fresh new look, if you are willing to spend the money.

If you are at a loss for kitchen or bathroom renovation ideas, there are numerous websites that can help you come up with modern trends and styles. It is usually best to keep the expensive items neutral in color. You can bring in color in other places like the walls, accessories, and rugs. This way you can easily change the color without a lot of expense.

    Do It Yourself Remodeling

If you are ambitious and want to save some money, you might want to try the remodeling yourself; without hiring a contractor. There are many projects that you should be able to do without much difficulty. Painting, hanging wallpaper, putting up borders, even flooring is something that can make a huge improvement without spending a lot of money.

If you plan on doing the remodeling yourself, there are some tips you should keep in mind. Take your time and be patient. Remodeling projects often take several days or weeks.

If you are doing it yourself, you probably also have to work at your job and do the remodeling in your spare time. There may be days when you come home from work and you are too tired to start working on your house.  For this reason, it is important that you take one project at a time and finish it before you begin another. By doing this, you won’t have your whole house in a mess the entire time.

For many people, additional storage is an important issue. Your local building supply store will probably have pre-built cabinets that you can hang by yourself without much difficulty. You can usually get them unfinished, which allows you to finish them in any color you choose. Shelving is another way to increase your storage space.

Flooring is also something you can do, but you must have patience and take your time. Laying tile can be a tedious process but can make a huge difference in a room. There are many types of tile available and some even have patterns, which will allow you to create a design in your room.

If you are planning on installing new lighting or plumbing fixtures, it might be wise to hire a professional. When dealing with electricity, the dangers involved call for someone who knows exactly what to do. The same with plumbing; if you don’t know what you are doing, you could easily cause damage to the rest of the house.

Remodeling your home, or just a part of you home, can be a fun project; if you follow a few suggestions. When your project is finished, you will be glad you took your time and did the job right.

Build A Solar Panel And Save Money

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2009 and filed under Articles | No Comments »

Solar power has so many advantages over regular fuel sources that you probably should be thinking about installing your own solar panel system. But, given the price often associated with them, you may not be too keen. It’s true that they CAN be expensive. The fee for just getting them installed has put them out of the reach of most people.

Thankfully there is an alternative – Build your own solar panels (these days it’s VERY easy)!

Solar Panel Kits You Can Build Yourself

A large solar panel can cost you a few thousands of dollars. When you build a solar panel by yourself, using a solar panel kit, the cost will be as low as $200. $50) you’ll have detailed instructions to show you exactly what to do. So even if you don’t have any experience, you’ll still be able to do it yourself. Once you have the guide, you can build your first panel in an afternoon.

These guides also come with a list of parts that you can get from any hardware store. Using this, you can get all the parts, for very little out of pocket cost. These DIY solar power kits even show you how to install the panels for maximum energy production. You can save a huge amount of money by using these kits. Compare the $200 cost to the $5,000+ of a regular “professional” system. It makes so much more sense to build your own solar panel.

What To Look For In A Solar Panel Kit

When you want to purchase such a kit, it is a good idea to compare the products of a few stores to find out the best that is worth your money. It’s not uncommon to find different places with special offers. The internet is also a great place to look for information. With the advantages of solar energy becoming more and more popular and easy to get, it is a good idea to use this green energy to your advantage. When you decide to go for solar electricity, but have a tight budget, it is always a good idea to build a solar panel using one of the various DIY kits available, and start saving money by cutting your power bills down by up to 80%!

Building Your Own Wind Generator is Nowhere Near As Difficult As It Sounds!

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2009 and filed under Articles | No Comments »

So a few months ago I announced to my friends and family that I was going to build a wind turbine. Seeing as how I’ve never been very handy yet can be quite tenacious, there were mixed predictions on my success. Truth be told it is not that hard to build a wind turbine on your own with the proper instruction manual and I’m not alone in being a homeowner who is sick and tired of paying the utility companies rising fees to the point of taking action. Renewable energy systems, like wind generators and solar panels, are now much more attainable and affordable than they used to be. It’s certainly not a 2-hour job to throw one of these together but with the proper instructions, and a good dose of tenacity, you can be assembling your own wind turbine pretty quickly.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend undertaking a project like this without a guidebook. And for anyone who has worked on a project with the assistance of an instruction book before, you know that all guidebooks are NOT created equal. Whatever you do, do not shop based on price alone. Search for value but also make sure that you find something that is simple to understand, preferably with plenty of illustrations. There are a ton of online resources, including forums, that can assist you in your quest to create your own wind turbine.

Wind generators are made up of four basic parts that should help you to get acquainted with their make-up. These include the batteries, towers, turbines and the propeller/tail assembly. The tools that you should have on hand for your project are fairly basic and you may not need to purchase anything special. Make sure you have wrenches, a drill and a saw for starters. Depending on which type of project you select, you may require additional tools but I’d wait until you take a look through your guidebook before making any purchases.

One component that you probably won’t be building from scratch, therefore will need to purchase, is the motor. Motors on wind turbines require very little maintenance so that should not be a huge concern. Expecting to do a little oiling and follow the manufacturer’s simple directions and you’ll have a more efficient running wind generator. Space is an issue also. If you haven’t done so already (this is one of the first things I did), take a walk outside and think about 1) where you’re going to build this thing, ie- work space, and 2) where you’re going to set it up. Depending on how much electricity you are seeking to generate, your turbine blades can reach up to 8 feet in diameter.

In the end, I put the doubters in their place and built my own wind generator. It’s not that difficult if you can follow directions and the whole thing pays for itself very quickly because I am now generating my own electricity. How cool is that? Pun intended. Building wind generators and solar energy systems is becoming increasingly popular these days and there are a few great products on the market to help consurmers do just that – affordably.  Our site reviews several of these products to help take the guesswork out of DIY solar power and wind power projects. There’s plenty of fantastic information on there as well.

    Rearranging Your Kitchen Cabinet

Posted by admin on May 23rd, 2009 and filed under Articles | No Comments »

Your kitchen is a place where one of the most complex parts of your day, that of preparing your meals, takes place.  Because the kitchen is a workspace, having efficiency is important.  However, in even the most organized kitchen, it can be difficult to keep your kitchen cabinets clutter-free and well organized.  A major reorganization of your kitchen cabinets once a year, or even more than once, will result in a more streamlined workspace, more space on your counters, and a more pleasant time in the kitchen.  Here’s how to get some better organization in your kitchen cabinets:

Getting Started: Out With The Old

The first step in organizing your custom made furniture cabinets is to get rid of anything old.  Even canned goods expire eventually; check the expiration date and trash it if it’s expired. Many spices lose their potency after a year or even a few months, so throw out any jars of old spices.Anything that is been sitting in the cupboards without use for months is a good cabinet.

This is a good time to throw out any extra pots and pans, silverware, or kitchen gadgets.  Don’t have a use for that garlic peeler? Donate it to Goodwill or give it to your neighbor.  By cleaning out your kitchen cabinets, you will have more space to work with when you get to the organizing part.

    Reloading The Cabinets

Once you’ve thrown out all the items you don’t need, it’s time to pull everything else out of your kitchen cabinets as well.  Then, it’s time to put everything away.Start with the cabinets closest to the stove; these cabinets are where you want to put the items you use most, like your pots and pans, and food items you might use a lot, like sugar and salt.  Spices can be hung on a rack above your stove.

As you work further out, fill the cabinets with items you need less.  Large items that aren’t needed much, such as the punch bowl you only haul out for your Christmas party, should go in the least accessible places; you certainly don’t want things you need often in those spots.

    Storing Appliances

Many people have a number of kitchen appliances that are useful, but take up a lot of counter space.  Consider setting aside one of your kitchen cabinets specifically for storing these appliances.  It doesn’t take much to put the appliances away after each use, and the extra counter space will make preparing meals easier.  If you take the time to organize your kitchen cabinets, you should be able to free up enough space to store your appliances, or to simply have a more streamlined setup for preparing your daily meals.
