You can handle the construction of a shed like any other project. Therefore building a shed can be broken down into three distinct steps or phases.
Create A Crystal-Clear Picture Of The Outcome
This step is very important. What is the purpose of the shed? How do you want to use it? Design the shed with this in mind.
Next, Create An Action Plan
This is where you take your vision and organize it into a step-by-step action plan.
This is my favorite part. It’s the bridge between your imagination and reality.
This is also where your plan is going to live or fail.
I create a detailed list of everything that I’m going to need, even if I already have it. Once I got it on my list, it’s also on my radar and I won’t forget about it.
I also put down who might be able to help me, either with building a shed itself, or with information on building a shed.
Friends and neighbors with experience in construction can give you useful hints and techniques. Those little things that are obvious but we just never think of them and then cause us lots of problems.
Now you can create both a shopping list and a list of people to give a call.
The next step is to sketch out all the phases in the actual construction process itself.
Implement The Plan
If you invest a good amount of thinking into the planning, building a shed will only take little time and you will avoid a lot of friction and frustration.
Everything and everybody will be ready for action and you don’t have to stop in the middle of the construction because you forgot to buy something.
Maybe you expected something different. But this is – in a nutshell – how to plan and execute a woodworking project successfully. Learn to get organized and you will actually enjoy it when you see how your plan comes together and your vision gets turned into reality. Seeing the actual result in your garden is the highlight, of course.
